All about KKC & How it came to be!

I am Isis Lester, a licensed cosmetologist and salon owner in the Philadelphia area who has grown to love the idea of haircare and the science of how healthy hair grows.

In 2021, I gave birth to my daughter Empress Joan Lester. When she was just 3 months old, I remember  someone saying to me ¨Oh your daughter is gonna have pretty hair.” 

That comment made me cringe because, in the African American community, that’s meant to be a compliment. However, I take it as an insult to all the beautiful textures I come across in my chair. As a stylist, I come across so many young girls who lack confidence in their hair because someone told them they have nappy or ugly hair. So I knew I had to ensure I educate my daughter on not only what’s ”good hair” but more importantly what’s healthy beautiful hair in all its textures. 

With my company Kinky Kurly Cute, I plan to change the narrative not just for my daughter but for every Brown girl out here that needs to hear it. The world needs to know that, whether you have kinky or curly hair, you are still cute!
